I got an ink blot on this one accidentally!

Before you school me on how the programs in major cities only get about 8% of their funding from the government and will be fine,  and how rural America will truly be hurt by these cuts, I know.  I just couldn’t resist this.

In other news, AmeriCorps, threatened by the same legislation, is responding to the threat of being canceled by ramping up the icebreakers at team meetings and introducing trust falls.

Happy anniversary everyone.  It’s been two wonderful years of doodles and paintles.  Thanks for reading, and thanks even more for giving me the business when I haven’t posted in awhile.

If you’re the last-minute type and still scrambling about what to get that special someone, consider cutting out the above.  In the spirit of DIY or Die, please add some personal flare.  I’d suggest a doily (obvs) or a maybe some glitter around the hearts.  If you’re still at work, consider stealing some office supplies and writing a personal message with red pen or a pink highlighter.  Possibilities abound!

Here’s the last part!  I get ladywood over being archival about personal events (I JUST threw away the receipt for my deposit on my very first apartment), so I’m glad that 24-hour comics day happened to be on the same day that tragedy befell my computer.  It makes me feel like there’s a concrete record of Computergate 2011, and for that I’m grateful.

Who is excited for Valentine’s Day?! This festive atheist definitely is.  I have two valentines for you (which you’ll be getting later Monday night as I work late on Monday and have to scan on my break) and a post-VDay wrap up.

Last year, I included on this site a list of items I would be pleased to receive on February 14th.  Among them were “burritos” and “making out.”  I had to wait about a month, but someone actually followed through on those two.  In light of last year’s success, I’ve decided to include an updated list for this year.  I know many of you are broke, but that’s okay because I am too, and most of the things I like are cheap or free.

So if you haven’t thought of how to prove your love to me, here are some things I like:

1. burritos

2. making out

3. things that are tender

3b. things that are special

4. collages made from fashion magazines (I can supply the fashion magazines)

5. significant glances

6. delicious baked goods (must be vegan, must NOT be gluten free. I am NOT one of those celiac motherfuckers)

7. doilies (see item 3b).

Here’s the second of three.  Stay tuned for part three, the one my okay day goes pear shaped.  In the meantime, I’ll be up to my elbows in glitter and red paper making your valentines.

I finally did 24-Hour Comics Day this year.  Most people who participate in this 1. use a pen, 2. draw some sort of panels and 3. make nicer looking comics each hour, but I felt like I should get a pass at doing a nice job because a lot of my day is spent teachering, so I had to be a little discreet.

This is part 1…stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 on Friday.  Also, stay tuned for VALENTINE’S DAY.  I’ll be gathering up my glue sticks and doilies in the meantime.

Obviously still learning how to use the nib.  But here’s some good news: after drawing this for two years, I have finally started scanning at a higher resolution.  Why it took me this long to figure that out, I couldn’t tell you.  It’s not like those extra dots per inch cost more.  Anyway, now you can look forward to the same quality of drawings appearing at MUCH HIGHER RESOLUTION–I’ll have to start drawing pores on my characters so you’ll be able to see them.

Let me assuage your fears, dear Homophobic Coworker.  I took a weight lifting class  my freshman year of college, and I shared the weight room with some of the dykiest dykes  the intramural athletic center had to offer.  Sometimes, they even let me “work in” to their sets (not a euphemism)–dykes are not machine hogs.  Worry not, Homophobic Coworker, this experience did not curb my enthusiasm for wang one bit.

Greetings, Culture Lovers!  I’ve missed you.  A lot has happened since last we talked.  For starters, I’ve moved twice.  Also, I started a different job.  Also, I let enough time go by without drawing that I started to feel really insecure about my abilities and think this might be a stupid and embarrassing endeavor.  I mean, I was probably right about the second thing, but I’m excited about drawing again.  I’m sorry for the dearth of updates, but I’m also really grateful to all my friends who asked about the comic and encouraged me to keep making things.  Weekly updates to resume…nnnnow.

I got a nib for Christmas, which is awesome, but it’s also hard as balls to use.  I don’t know how professional drawists get anything done.  The terrible drawing above is the first thing I tried to make with it when I was figuring out all the different tips and how to hold it.  I am still figuring out both of those things, so I decided to go ahead and post this even though it’s all wobbly and none of the lines of text are parallel.
